Q. 7: What is God?
Answer: God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.
Scripture: Jn. 4:24; Job 11:7, 8, 9; Psa. 90:2; Jms. 1:17; Exod. 3:14; Psa. 147:5; Rev. 4:8; 15:4; Exod. 34:6
Comment: As a “Spirit” God is without a body and not visible to us (Jn. 4:24; Lk. 24:36-39). God is “infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being,” meaning He is boundless and has always existed as He is and will continue to exist as He is. There is no limit to God’s glory. God’s attributes are manifested in creation, providence, and salvation. The gospel especially reveals to us the attributes of God: wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth (Rom. 1:16, 17; 3:26; 1 Cor. 1:17-25, 30; Col. 1:5, 6; 1 Jn. 4:7-11). This is so, because Christ came to reveal to us the Father (Jn. 1:14-18), and it is in the face of Jesus Christ that we see the glory of God (2 cor. 4:4,6).
