I recently read a good article by the coordinator of ARBCA, Gordon Taylor, on the continual great need for missionary endeavors to the unreached people groups. The article is entitled “Death of Billions Sobering” (PDF, see pg. 3). Taylor warns not to draw wrong conclusions from good theology. Yes, God is sovereignly sending the gospel to those places where His people are, but that does not negate our responsibility as the church to eagerly pray for the lost and for more harvesters, nor does it negate our responsibility to send out missionaries and to go ourselves (if we are so called). It should burden our hearts that great multitudes are entering an eternity in hell, being ever separated from the glory of God. Yes, this is their just desert for sin, but it was ours too. It is only by grace that we now stand before God in true holiness and righteousness. We are commissioned now to go into all the world and proclaim this gospel of grace, both for the glory of God and Christ among the nations, and for the sake of the elect.
