The apostle Paul exhorted the Philippian believers, “Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame–who set their mind on earthly things” (Phil. 3:17-19).
The Puritans are such faithful, godly examples that we would do well to follow. The Puritans were men who truly knew the Bible, for they read it, studied it, and meditated upon it daily. Because of their saturation in God’s word, they lived lives of sound conviction and holy devotion. They were men who kept their focus on eternity, not on earthly things. The Puritans saw doctrine and practice as inseparable realities or truths. Their practice was truly influenced and guided by their theology. In these three videos, Joel Beeke, an expert on the Puritans, gives a convicting and encouraging message on the example that the Puritans set, calling us to follow suit in Bible saturation and holy living.
