The Baptist Catechism: Q. 2 (Belief In God)

Q. 2Ought everyone to believe there is a God?
Answer: Everyone ought to believe there is a God; and it is their great sin and folly who do not.
Scripture: Hebrews 11:6; Psalm 14:1

Comment: It should be understood that this Q/A has in mind the one true God, not just any god.  God exists and brought everything into creation; therefore He should be believed upon.  Not to believe in this one true God of the Bible is to deny the source of all truth, and therefore to stand upon air.  What is more, the evidence of creation and the law of nature in man (i.e. the law written on the heart, affecting the conscience, Rom. 2:14-15) is solid enough proof for God’s existence, that to deny the existence of God is deemed foolishness.  It is not only foolishness, but sin (Psa. 14:1; 53:1).  Faith is fundamental in fulfilling our God-honoring call in life (Heb. 11:6).  The worst thing anyone could do is to deny the Creator who made them.
